Steve Gaede

Steve Gaede founded Lone Eagle Systems in order to make his and his colleagues' collective experience available to a wide range of forward-looking clients. Steve received his B.S.E in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan and his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been employed by Amdahl Corp., Bell Laboratories, Cray Laboratories, NBI, Inc., and Software Design & Analysis Inc. prior to founding Lone Eagle Systems Inc. His UNIX performance evaluation experience began at U.C. Berkeley and Bell Laboratories, where his capacity measurement techniques have set a standard for more than two decades-- and since 1991 have been part of the SPEC Software Development Multi-tasking (SDM) benchmark suite. His UNIX kernel-level work at NBI, Inc. lead him to the development of a comprehensive set of hardware and software tools for evaluating and improving UNIX-based application performance. This experience was key in his work establishing tools and benchmarks for multimedia server performance projects with Lone Eagle Systems. His insights into system performance issues are part of why Steve Gaede has a proven track record in exploiting new technologies in effective ways for state-of-the-art architectures, designs, and implementations. Steve is active in the Boulder professional community, and has been a coordinator of the Front Range UNIX Users Group since 1984.

Tom Cargill

Dr. Tom Cargill works with Lone Eagle Systems on Java language and object-oriented design issues. Tom has been programming with objects since he was an early-adopter of C++ in 1983. His work at Bell Laboratories resulted in the creation of the first major system programmed in C++ -- a family of portable distributed debuggers which remain in production use and continue to evolve within AT&T today. Tom is a recognized authority in the field of object-oriented programming. He is the author of C++ Programming Style (Addison-Wesley, 1992) as well as fourteen refereed publications. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1979, Tom remained at the University of Waterloo as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science until 1982, when he joined the Computing Science Research Center of AT&T Bell Laboratories. His research involved investigation of debuggers, particularly their user interfaces. This work lead to his early use of C++ and allowed him to influence the language design. Since 1989, Tom has been an independent consultant, where he is currently focusing on the Java programming language in his consulting work and courses taught at the University of Colorado. Complete details can be found in Tom's resume, which is available in HTML format. Tom's services are available through .profile Consulting, Inc., as well as Lone Eagle Systems.

Deborah Craven brings 15 years of graphic arts experience to Lone Eagle Systems, where she provides graphic and multimedia design expertise. Her work has helped to integrate Lone Eagle's technical insights with artistic interpretation that delivers client messages in a clear and concise manner. In her work with Lone Eagle Systems, she has overhauled one storage company's technical illustrations to make them uniform and technically correct, proceeding to develop Adobe Flash animations that bring them to life. She has created complex and attention-getting newsletter styles, and has created rich and interesting graphics for company event collateral.

After receiving her B.F.A. from Colorado State University, she took a position as Art Director at CadWare Alliance, a start-up software design company. She then moved to CTSi, a marketing company specializing in cable industry communications. Today, Deb shares her artistic talent and experience with new designers. In her position as Program Coordinator for the Front Range Community College's Boulder County Campus, Multimedia Graphic Design program, she teaches typography, graphic design, and courses geared toward effective use of today's high-end graphic design software packages.

Bob Gray

Dr. Robert Gray has worked with Lone Eagle Systems on computer systems performance, digital video, and networking projects. Bob received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado in 1990, and his B.S. in Physical Sciences from the University of Maryland in 1977. In recent years, he has been involved in several entrepreneurial projects, including IRIS Reading Systems, Inc., where he built an organization to produce audible text reading devices for the blind. As a co-founder of Boulder Labs, Bob managed a software consulting company specializing in networking, Internet security, and embedded systems using Open Source software including FreeBSD and Linux. As Director of Software Engineering at Pluto Technologies, Bob built and delivered a digital video disk recorder for the broadcast industry in a mere 14 months. Bob's work with digital video technology started in the late-1970's, when he developed a UNIX system-based image processor. His digital video work began again in the 1990's during his time at U S WEST Advanced Technologies. In his position as Member of Technical Staff, he was responsible for a digital video conferencing trial across the state of Oregon, requiring the utilization of FDDI and ATM networking and routing equipment well before its use had become widespread. Bob has been an active leader and contributor in the USENIX Association since 1982, and served as program chairman for the January 1996 USENIX conference attended by more than 1500 professionals. He served two years as the invited talks coordinator, and writes a column in the association's ;login: newsletter on Open Source issues. Bob's services are available through Boulder Labs, as well as Lone Eagle Systems.
